The Ethiopian Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu (PhD) held discussion with Gambian Foreign Minister, Mamadu Tangara (PhD), at a sideline meeting during the 20th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) today.

The two Foreign Ministers during their discussion agreed that Ethiopia and Gambia will work cooperatively to strengthen their bilateral relations for a new chapter of cooperation at large.

Tangara has thanked Ethiopia for taking a leading role for the lift of the sanctions imposed on Eritrea by the Security Council.

The lifting of the sanctions will have far-reaching effects in improving the stability of the Horn of Africa region and in building a lasting peace and normalization of relations among the countries in the region, Tangara added.

Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has also praised the adoption by the United Nations Security Council to lift the sanctions imposed on Eritrea since December 2009.

It was noted that Tangara has showed interests to commence flights of the Ethiopian Airlines to and fro Ethiopia and Gambia.
