President Al-Bashir reaffirms strong Ethio-Sudan relations

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen met with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum, Sudan yesterday.

Speaking after the meeting, Demeke said “we discussed frankly about how to develop bilateral relations.”

“We agreed to set up committees to implement the agreements, support cooperation between the two countries in various fields, exchange experiences, and address border issues,” he added.

During the meeting, President al-Bashir reaffirmed the strong relations between Sudan and Ethiopia and called for more cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

In a press statement after the meeting, Sudanese Foreign Minister, Dr. Dardari Mohamed Ahmed said that the meeting touched on a number of issues of mutual concern.

The two sides agreed on the importance of the joint border committees and the border demarcation committees between the two countries and work together to complete the mission, he said.

They also underscored the importance of activating existing cooperation committees between the two countries at all levels, the Foreign Minister added.

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke presented the condolences of the government and people of Ethiopia to the martyrs of the plane crash in Gedaref state.

Governor of Gedaref state and six other officials were killed in a helicopter crash a week ago.
