Amended Charities and Societies Law on pipeline

The draft bill developed to amend the Ethiopian civil society organizations (CSOs) proclamation has been referred to the Council of Ministers, according to the Federal Attorney General.

Office of the Federal Attorney General presented its five month performance report to the House of People’s Representatives (HPR).

Berhanu Tsegaye, Federal Attorney General, said that the draft bill will be presented to the House for approval. The draft law is expected to come into effect once it is approved by the House.

The draft law took into consideration constitutional and international conventions which focused on the right to organize, he said.

The Attorney General further said that a draft bill has been developed to amend the anti-terrorism law and it will be tabled for pertinent bodies soon.

Draft bills were also prepared to amend other laws including the electoral law, commercial law, freedom of the mass media and access to information law, prevention of trafficking in persons law and energy law, among others.
