House ratifies revised refugee law

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) has today ratified the revised refugee proclamation that provides better and inclusive provision to refugees in Ethiopia.

The House (parliament) passed the law with majority vote, three against, and one abstention.

The law drafted by office of the Federal Attorney General was earlier passed by the Council of Ministers after incorporating detailed comments.

The revised refugee will cater to the implementation of Ethiopia’s pledges and comprehensive refugee response framework (CRRF) commitments in the country.

The House also approved the 83.3 million US dollars credit facility signed with the International Development Association (IDA) for Ethiopia’s economic opportunity program-for-result, with majority vote, three against and three abstentions.

The development objective of the program will provide economic opportunities for Ethiopians and refugees in an environmentally and socially sustainable way.
