Veteran patriots commemorate 82nd Martyrs’ Day

The 82nd Ethiopian Martyrs’ Day has been observed today with various programs held in Addis Ababa at Sidist killo Yekatit 12 square.

The commemoration included laying of wreaths at the Martyr’s Monument by representatives of Addis Ababa city administration and other organizations in memory of the dead.

The Day commemorates Ethiopians massacred by the Italian forces following an attempted assassination on Marshal Rodolfo Graziani.

Estimates suggest that as many as 30,000 Ethiopians were killed by the Italian forces in 1937, mainly through indiscriminate killings in Addis Ababa.

The incident is considered as one of the worst atrocities committed by the Italian occupation forces and has been described as the worst massacre in Ethiopian history.
