SEPDM Central Committee examines reform performance

The Central Committee of the Southern Ethiopian People’s Democratic Movement (SEPDM) has concluded its meeting today after evaluating its six-month performance.

The Committee in particular reviewed the implementation of the reform process launched at regional and national levels as well as set directions to rectify limitations seen during the implementation process, it said in a statement issued today.

Moreover, it discussed in detail on what the structure and future directions of SEPDM should look like in order to build strong democracy, bring speedy development, and sustain peace in the regional state.

The Committee said practical activities have been started to reliably respond to question of the people for essentials, such as development, good governance, fair and equitable benefit-sharing as well as other question related to new structure in regional state.

It further said the Movement is endeavoring to build democracy, enhance political participation of the residents, to promote freedom of speech and expression, to ensure that a person’s freedom of movement is not restricted and to prevent displacement of people.

The Committee further said a federal system will remain high in the agenda of the regional state, adding consensus has been reached to bring solutions sensibly and in a way that benefits all sides for the current request to become a regional state.

The Committee also decided to recruit intellectual, youth and women as members to meet the current demand for change. It also underscored the need to improve agricultural productivity and attach special attention to manufacturing sector to add momentum to the ongoing economic reform.
