Rotary International commends Ethiopia’s zeal to eradicate Polio

Rotary International has issued certificate of recognition to Ethiopia for its efforts to eradicate polio.

President Sahle-Work Zewde received the certificate from Barry Rassin, President of Rotary International, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace today.

President Sahle-Work and Rassin also exchanged views on the gains made by Rotary International in Ethiopia, according to office of the President.

Rassin said the strong partnership existed between the Government and Rotary International was the key for the organization to carry out successful activities in Ethiopia.

He also pledged to continue cooperating with the Government of Ethiopia.

President Sahle-Work for her part said the government will provide all the necessary support for the organization’s activities.

The President also highlighted the importance of focusing on routine immunization, which is cost effective and best tool to eradicate polio, instead of a onetime immunization campaign.

She further said a new civil society law was recently ratified by Parliament in order to create favorable conditions for non-governmental organizations.
