Tens of thousands of Sidama women took to street in Hawassa today demanding the government to arrange a referendum to decide the statehood question of the Sidama people in South people’s Nations and Nationalities region of Ethiopia.
The Sidama people are demanding the Sidama Zone to have statehood status as nine of Ethiopia’s self-administrative regions.
Many ethnic groups in the region have been demanding the upgarde of their respective Zonal administration to statehood level.
