EPRDF Council wraps up meeting, identifies lack of peace, stability as key challenge to reform

Council of the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has concluded its meeting that commenced last Monday and it has indicated that lack of sustainable peace and stability in the country has been the key challenge to strengthen the reform. The party also has evaluated its overall performance during the last nine months.

The council, joined by the affiliate party representatives for the first time, has discussed deeply on ways to foster unity of ideology and activities by filling gaps that are being creating suspicions between the member parties of the front.

As part of the economic reform, measures taken in the economic sector have brought positive outcomes by boosting the foreign exchange reserve of the country. But the press release also reiterated on the need for wide ranging interventions to address growing youth unemployment, shortage of foreign exchange, debt repayment, and other areas of the economy.

The statement underlined on the need to ensure participation of youth in various political, economic and social areas that could make them more beneficiaries and enable them to contribute their share for the stability, growth and tranquility of the country at large.

The council indicated that it has put clear remedies that can fill loopholes that have been observed in the effort to ensure the rule of law and make the reform made in the justice sector practical during the last nine months.

Rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced people in different areas of the country shall be given due emphasis during the remaining months of this budget year, the statement said.

The council also has decided to further strengthen ties with neighboring countries, especially with Eritrea by capitalizing on political, economic and social options that are yet to be tapped.
