52nd African weather forecast forum to be held in Addis Ababa

The 52th African Weather Forecast forum, which is organized by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), is held in Addis Ababa.

Opening the forum, Water Irrigation and Energy minister, Dr. Eng. Sileshi Bekele said that Ethiopia is one the countries, which are prone to drought and weather calamity.

He said that the government has given due emphasis to modernize weather forecast systems.

Global Weather Forecast Director, Dr. Makis Dilli on his part said that weather change has been hurting policies and strategies they country have, and also produce sudden calamities.

In Africa, 24 million people are exposed to drought of which 12.5 million people live in East Africa.
