EPRDF EC discusses pressing political affairs, sets future directions

The ruling coalition, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Party, Executive Committee (EC) has indicated that it has discussed current political matters in the nations and also has set future directions.

The Committee, via a statement it released today, unveiled that it has deeply discussed political activities of the last budget, current political scenarios in the country and issues that need due focus in the near future. Even if many political leaps were made during the year, lack of stability, deficiency in committed leadership, misunderstanding on the role of journalism and activism have posed challenges on the overall well-being of the country.

Lack of capable institutions, having no common consensus on basic national issues, and weak government administrative system have fostered the challenges, according the Committee’s finding.
Even though wider space is created for competitive parties to operate freely, due to their large numbers and lack of clear agendas by many of them have made creating effective multi-party system a challenge in the country.

The Committee also stressed on the need to work more for the creation of strong civic associations in the country.

It also discussed on issues related to the next election and ways to make it play a key role in fostering multi-party system in the country.
