State Minister meets UK Envoy

Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Hirut Zemene, has received Mr Julian Reilly, UK Envoy for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, at her office today.

Hirut briefed the Envoy on the positive role Ethiopia has been playing together with African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to promote peace and stability in the region, according to a report by FBC.

Based on its long-standing policy of non-interference in other countries internal affairs, Ethiopia along with AU and IGAD, has been playing a mediator role in the region to translate differences into opportunities.

The State Minister also thanked the international community for their support for Ethiopia’s efforts, according to a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to FBC today.

Citing the peace deal reached in Sudan after series of efforts by Ethiopia’s and its support to Somalia as examples, Mr Reilly said Ethiopia is a key country in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea areas.

He added the UK government would provide the needed support to strengthen ongoing efforts to bring lasting peace and prosperity in the region, he said.
