EU Migration, Home Affairs Commissioner holds talks with FM Workneh

Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu met with EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos today.

Briefing journalists, EU Commissioner Avramopoulos said he appreciates the reform which can play its own role in controlling illegal migration and create peace and stability in the region.

The EU will support the reform and wants to work with the Ethiopian government to strengthen cooperation to control illegal migration and collaborate on peace and security in the region, he added.

Avramopoulos pointed out that the European Union will also work together with Ethiopia in the fight against terrorism “since we live in the volatile region of the world.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Workneh said on his part Ethiopia has solid and strategic relation with EU.

He added that the officials discussed about mechanisms to make migration to Europe legal for Ethiopians.

The minister noted that Ethiopia will contribute its share in controlling illegal migration and promoting peace and stability in the region through creating jobs for the youth and strengthening security in border areas.
