Celebration of Fiche Chambalala, a New Year festival among the Sidama people, kicked off in the city of Hawassa today.
The festivity is one of the interesting holidays typical to Sidama and will be celebrated for two days.
In the two-day festivity, representatives drawn from various woredas of Sidama zone will stage various communal events, including cultural dances.
Fiche Chamballala is one of the festivals registered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
