Ethiopian New Year colorfully celebrated

Ethiopians across different corners have colorfully celebrated the New Year.

Ethiopian New Year is on Sep. 12, 2019 according to the Coptic Julian calendar.

The New Year, also known as Enkutatash in Amharic, also signifies the end the rainy and arrival of spring.

It is also celebrated for Queen Sheba’s Travel to King Solomon of Israel 3000 years ago, to who the king presented a ring as gift.

Religious leaders, President Sahle-Work Zewde, Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed wished all Ethiopians a happy new year.

The Ethiopian counting of years begins in the year 8 of the Common Era. This is because the Common Era follows the calculations of Dionysius, a 6th-century monk, while the non-Chalcedonian countries continued to use the calculations of Annius, a 5th-century monk, which had placed the Annunciation of Christ exactly 8 years
