China inaugurates poverty alleviation office in Ethiopia

China officially inaugurates poverty alleviation office today at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Executive Vice President with China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), Wang Xingzui, during his welcoming remarks noted that the foundation with partners, has implemented the Smiling Children School Feeding Project, Wash Project and Women Economic Empowerment Projects in Ethiopia since 2015. These projects have benefited approximately 27,000 Ethiopian women and children.

CFPA’s Smiling Children School Feeding Program provides meals in 43 public schools for nearly 5,000 students in Addis Ababa.  

With support from a Chinese construction company, XCMG, CFPA has built 80 water cellars which substantially alleviate water shortages for local residents in dry seasons to provide access to clean and safe water in a renewable, sustainable and environmentally-friendly way in rural area of Ethiopia.

Through the provision of technical and marketable skills, Women Economic Empowerment Project contributes to the creation of jobs for Ethiopian women by using traditional techniques and materials.   

This year, CFPA has targeted to distribute 43,000 School Panda Packs to students of the Ethiopian public primary schools. This project was also launched officially during the ceremony, it was noted.      

The People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tan Jian, on his part said that the Chinese government and people are ready to build a community of shared future with Africans in advancing the Belt and Roald Initiative, China will further strengthen cooperation in economic trade, investment and people-to-people connectivity to alleviate poverty.    

He added that China and Ethiopia will celebrate 50th Anniversary setting up of diplomatic relations in the year 2020 so as to join hands in fighting poverty to achieve common development for a new height.         

CFPA has implemented long-term projects in Myanmar, Nepal, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, and Cambodia.  

According to sources, established in 1989, CFPA is a humanitarian relief and development organization. Over the past 30 years, it has raised about 6 billion Yuan to fund projects in education, health, livelihood and emergency response to benefit 33 million people.
