Addis celebrates Irrecha

Irrecha, a thanksgiving festival of the Oromo people, has been celebrated at Hora Finfine in Addis Ababa today.

The Oromo people celebrate Irrecha to thank Waqa (God) for the blessings and mercies they have received; and also to welcome the new season of plentiful harvests after the dark and rainy season associated with nature and creature.  

Millions of the people joined the Hora Irrecha celebrations held in Addis Ababa from all corners of Ethiopia today. Cultural troupes representing various Oromo people have displayed enlightening dances as they entered into Addis Ababa.

Clad in traditional clothes, the guests arrived in Addis Ababa with their traditional dishes which will be displayed at ongoing Irrecha Food Festival at Meskel Square. A four-kilometer traditional food known as Chiko, which is made of thousands of kilograms of barley flour and butter was displaced at the celebration yesterday.

On Irrecha festivals, friends, family, and relatives gather together and celebrate with joy and happiness.

The celebrations of Irrecha Hora Arsedi will be held tomorrow at Lake Hora in Bishoftu, about 40 km east of the capital, Addis Ababa.
