Foreign Ministers of African Countries Arrive in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 15, 2023 (Walta) – Foreign Ministers of African nations are arriving in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (Ministerial Session) which due to convene between February 15 and 16, 2023 preceding the 36th ordinary Session of the AU Assembly (Heads of State and Government Session).

Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official Twitter account announced that foreign ministers of Algeria, Kenya, Togo, Niger, Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Gabon, Lesotho, Zambia, Congo (Kinshasa), Congo (Brazzaville), Egypt, Angola and Deputy Foreign Minister of South Sudan have already arrived in Addis Ababa so far.

The African Union will convene the 2023 Summit of 36th Ordinary Session of the assembly of the union under the theme “The Year of AfCFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation”.

Answerable to the Assembly, the Executive Council is responsible for preparing agendas and draft decisions for its consideration for the Assembly, promoting cooperation and coordination among regional institutions, promoting gender equality in all AU programs, preparing recommendations for the assembly, and determining the policy of cooperation between AU and partners.
