Ethiopia’s Membership to BRICS Demonstrates its Historical Roles in IR Forums-Ambassador Yevgeny Terekhin

Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Representative to the African Union, Yevgeny Terekhin

Addis Ababa, May 27, 2024 (Addis Walta) Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Representative to the African Union, Yevgeny Terekhin, stated that Ethiopia’s joining to BRICS demonstrated the country’s historical roles in the International Relations.

Ambassador Yevgeny Terekhin noted that Ethiopia is one of the founding members of Organization of African Unity (now AU), League of Nations, and United Nations.

Ethiopia’s accession to BRICS, group of major emerging economies comprises of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, is an indication of the growing influence of the country.

Ethiopia can play key constructive roles in South-South Cooperative frame work thanks to its huge economic potential and large workforce, the Ambassador underlined.

He also noted that Ethiopia and Russia have a historic and trust-based friendship in people-to-people relations and development cooperation.

Ambassador Terekhin pointed out that BRICS can bolster bilateral and multilateral cooperation and fuel economic development among member states.

Speaking to ENA, the Russian Ambassador pinpointed that BRICS member countries are building a constructive culture of consultation and dialogue in the field of development and civilization, culture and regional development cooperation.

BRICS is a south-south cooperation platforms which accounted 35.6 per cent of global GDP with emerging economic development. The member states has USD 58.9 Trillion in world economy and 45 per cent of world population, mostly productive age.
