Ethiopia, Singapore Pledge to Strengthen Financial and Economic Ties

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2024 (Addis Walta) Ethiopia and Singapore vowed to deepen their financial and economic ties.

Today at the sidelines of Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Singapore, Minister of Finance of Ethiopia, Ahmed Shide, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development of the Republic of Singapore, Ms. Indranee Rajah, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between the two nations.

Ahmed Shide highlighted the historic ties between Ethiopia and Singapore and extended an invitation to Singaporean companies to explore investment opportunities and public-private partnership ventures in Ethiopia.

He also pointed out that Ethiopia embarked on an ongoing financial reforms mainly in market liberalization efforts in financial sector which could elevate the financial and economic ties between the two countries.

Indranee Rajah, in her part, underscored Singapore’s willingness to foster potential business partnerships between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings.

Moreover, she underlined Singapore’s commitment to collaborate with Ethiopia in sharing knowledge and experiences in the fields of economy and finance.

She emphasized the significance of multilateral cooperation as well as bilateral partnerships to bolster the economic relationship between the two nations, as per MoF.
