Ethiopia expects 9.2 % economic growth

The Prime Mnister, briefing the House of People’s Representatives today on the overall performance of his government during the last eleven months, indicated that the country’s economy is expected to grow by 9.2 percent at the end of this budget year.

Speaking specifically on the performance of the economic plan, he indicated that measures have been taken to stabilize and create firm foundations for the macro-economic scenarios of the country.

The Prime Minister reminded that the growth rate of the country’s economy has been decreasing due to the political and social situations that it has been facing during the last few years and the average growth during the 2010 budget year was 7.7 percent.

Despite the decrease in trade output supplies, the overall economic performance of the country has shown recovery as compared to last year, he noted.

Freeing the sector from severe institutional gaps and sustaining its robust growth shall be giveb priority during the coming months, he noted.

About 1.4 million new jobs have been created during the last 11 months for the youth but there are more than 11 million unemployed youth in the country, he indicated.

The micro and small scale enterprises have taken the lions share in terms creating new jobs for youth in different parts of the country.
