Ministry collects 198 billion birr revenue in 2011

The Ministry of Revenue and Customs Authority has unveiled that it has bagged about 198 billion birr during the last budget year (2011).

The Minister, Adanech Abebe, while briefing journalists today on last year’s performance and the plan for the new budget year indicated that her office has collected 198 billion birr of the planned 213 billion birr during the stated period.

Even though the collected amount is short of the planned amount, it has increased by 12 percent as compared to the amount collected in 2010, she noted.

The amount of revenue collected during the last budget year has indicated that the Ministry’s revenue collecting capacity is developing from time to time, she added.

Domestic revenue has taken 61 percent share from the total while the share of customs revenue was 39 percent.

Though the revenue amount can’t be satisfactory as seen from the overall economic development the country is registering, the increasing share of domestic revenue from the total is a commendable achievement, she noted.

The Ministry of Revenue and Customs has planned to collect about 248.3 billion birr during this budget year.
