The government decided to pardon 417 convicts and drop charges brought against 329 suspects, Attoreney General, Getachew Ambaye announced.
The Attorney General told Walta that out of the 417 convicts, 298 are serving at federal prisons, while 119 are held at prisons in Amhara regional state.
He also said that out of suspects, who will get their cases dropped, 278 are held at federal prisons, while the rest 33, and 18 are held at prisons in Tigray Regional State and Amhara Regional State, respectively.
According to the Attorney General, dropping of charges and pardon will be effective after cases of prisoners presented to, and approved by the president and training given to prisoners.
