Premier meets with Pope Francis

In the last leg of the Rome visit, Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed met with His Holiness Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City.

He also held discussions with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, according to Office the Prime Minister.

The discussion focused on issues of common interest to both Ethiopia and the Vatican City State, the office added.

Pope Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.

Milan Cathedra is the largest church in Italy which took nearly six centuries to complete, the third largest in Europe and the fourth largest in the world.

The Italian territory is divided in 225 Catholic dioceses.
