Joint Council of Political Parties ratifies disciplinary code

Disciplinary code for the implementation of the covenant signed by the 107 political parties in the country was approved today.

National Electoral Board of Ethiopia Chairperson, Birtukan Midekssa said the discussion generated many ideas that developed the rules before its approval by majority vote.

According to her, the disciplinary code is a document prepared to enforce the covenant.

The objectives of the code are gathering information, hearing grievances and investigating them to pass decision.

“This code is a tool that the parties will use to implement the signed covenant. The parties are in charge of the implementation process because they are the ones who presented, discussed and approved it,” she said.

Birtukan said the code will have vital role in helping the parties to respect the covenant and work for the success of it.

Meanwhile, the parties have approved internal performance rule for the Joint Council of Political Parties.

The parties will elect a committee tomorrow.
