Ethiopia, China Agree To Cooperate In Justice Sector

A Chinese delegation led by Vice Minister of Justice, Liu Zhenyu, held talk with Ethiopia’s Attorney General, Berhanu Tsegaye, here in Addis Ababa yesterday.

During the discussion, the Attorney General appreciated China’s support and investment in infrastructure development in Ethiopia.

He also briefed the delegation on Ethiopia’s ongoing justice sector reform and its efforts to combat corruption, control money laundering and financing of terrorism as well as to ensure rule of law and accountability for human rights violations.

Ethiopia seeks the support and participation of the Chinese government in its efforts to expand access to justice in the country and in the capacity building sectors, the Attorney General indicated.

After commending efforts of the Federal Attorney General to ensure rule of law, Liu Zhenyu said the government of China would provide technical and capacity building support for Ethiopia’s ongoing justice sector reform.

The two sides also agreed to further strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two countries and to cooperate to ensure that the rule of law is strengthened and upheld, according to the Federal Attorney General.

They also agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for future cooperation in the justice sector.
