House postpones local election for Addis Ababa, Dire Dewa City Administrations

The House of Peoples’ Representatives (HoPR) today voted the proposal to  extend local elections for Addis Addis Ababa and Dire Dewa city Administrations by one year.

The House called for emergency meeting from two month recess.

As election of Addis Ababa and Dire Dewa city council, which was supposed to be conducted this year failed to take place according to the schedule, and the proposal by Ethiopian Election Board to conduct integrally with next year’s national election got approved.

In a letter, the Board wrote to the House, it has declared that local elections for two cities were not possible.

Accordingly, the incumbent administrations of Addis Ababa and Dire Dewa will continue until come next election.

The House will also review other proclamations in its today session.
