Civil societies urged to play role in upcoming national election

Civil society intitutions are urged to paly a posetive role in the upcoming national election.

This remark came today when the National  Ethiopian Election Board(NEBE) presented the recentely approved election law to civil socities in a bid to raise awareness.

Ethiopian Civil Societies Association Forum, Director General, Bilen Asrat said that the role of civil socities used to play in previous elections was insignificant.

According to the Director, the government bureaucracies, which were previously set against civil societies, have impeded the civil society assoctions from palying deserved role in democratization.

She said that this Forum will help aware the society on ethical code of election, and deploy impartial observers during election to play role before and after the upcoming election.

Member of NEBE, Bizuwork Ketete on her part said that thorugh the election and poltical partries proclamations approved by the House of Peoples’ Represnetatives, such forums will serves as source of ideas for regulation that will be prepared by the Board.
