Addis unveils two regulations on use of freight, motor vehicles

The Addis Ababa City Administration has revealed regulations concerning the use of the motor vehicles and freight transport vehicles in the city today.

Economic Cluster Coordinator and Head of Transport Bureau with Deputy Mayor Status, Solomon Kidane(PhD), said that regulations are not administering licensed emergency services, security and defense bodies, transport service supervisors and vehicles used by the physically disabled.

International organizations, embassies, consulates, religious institutions, civic organizations, shall be licensed taking into account their need for the service of such vehicles.

Those using such vehicles are expected to use logos and professional wears during their operation.

The regulation allows users to claim licenses and use such vehicles for the stated purposes.

Light Freight transport vehicles are banned from moving in the city from 12;30-4;00 in the morning and 10;00-2:00 in the evening.

Heavy freight vehicles are banned from 12:30 in the morning up to 2:00 in the evening. Heavy construction vehicles are allowed to be operated in the city only in the evening from 2:00 up to 12:30 in the morning.

Liquid Sewerage vehicles are allowed to be operated from 4:00 in the morning up to 10:00 in the afternoon.
