Ministry Gives Star Ratings to 88 More Hotels

The Ethiopian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in a second round of hotel star ratings since 2015, has given a star rating of one to four to 88 hotels throughout Ethiopia.

Over the past six months, the Ministry, revealed, a review of a total of 159 hotels in all the regions and two city administrations in the country was being carried out by Ethiopian industry professionals. Nonetheless, 88 of the 159 were able to attain some star rating.

Out of the 88, 12 hotels are rated four-star, 13 three-star, 31 two-star and 27 one-star. 30 of the 88 newly star-rated hotels are located in Addis Ababa, while 12 are in Amhara, 12 in Oromia, 8 in Tigray, 3 in Benishangul Gumuz, 2 in Dire Dawa and one in Gambella and one in Harari. The Somali region remains to be the only region that failed to have any hotel to qualify a star-rating in this round.

At the end of the first round of star-rating in 2015, 250 hotels had obtained a star rating of one to five.
