The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mastercard Foundation have signed an agreement that enables the latter to open it branch office in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The agreement was signed here today by State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Markos Tekle and Mastercard Foundation Ethiopia Representative, Alemayehu Konde.

Dr Markos on the occasion said “I’m happy by the decision of the foundation to open its branch office in Addis Ababa.”

The opening of the office would contribute its share for the achievement of the plan set by the Ethiopian government to empower women and youth, according to a report by FBC.

Alemayehu said Ethiopia is one of the ten strategic nations selected by the foundation for financial and technical support in the areas of agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and other sectors.

He also announced the foundation’s plan to create millions of jobs over the coming ten years in partnership with the Ethiopian Job Creation Commission.

About 70% percent of beneficiaries of the employment opportunities will be women, he said.

Since its creation, the Foundation has partnered with a number of worldwide non-governmental organizations and core partners aiming to ameliorate financial life.
