Addis Ababa, July 26, 2024 (Addis Walta) The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, expressed his condolences to Ethiopians dead of landslide in Gofa Zone, in Southern Ethiopia.
“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of more than 200 lives in the south of Ethiopia following landslides triggered by heavy rains,” the Secretary General wrote on his X handle.
He directed the UN agencies to urgently dispatching food, nutrition, health and other critical supplies to help affected people.
The landslide reportedly have killed more than 226 people and displaced over 600.
Ethiopian government has intensified the search for bodies of victims and supplying humanitarian.
