Addis Ababa, February 13, 2023 (Walta) – Oromia Regional State President, Shimelis Abdissa, announced that, about 1.2 million of quintals of wheat from the region is ready for export this year.
The president, on his social media page, appreciated each farmer and development agent who surpassed what seemed like an impossible target.
He stated that exporting wheat is the beginning of the country’s journey to prosperity.
For the first time in its history, Ethiopia has officially launched wheat exporting in Bale Zone of Oromia region in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other high government officials.
Prime Minister’s Macroeconomic Adviser and Coordinator of Wheat Export National Committee, Ambassador Girma Birru pointed out that Ethiopia has the capacity to export more than 32 million quintals surplus of wheat domestic consumption.
