Money spent for Yayu Fertilizer Complex unbalanced to implementation status: House

 

The Government developmental organization standing committee of the House of Peoples Representative said that the money spent for the construction of Yayu Fertilizer Complex project is not worth its implementation status.

During the field visit, the Committee said that the budget does not fit to the progress the company had.

 Committee Chair, Gebrezabiher Araya, said that  the delay of the project will cause additional expense.

Therefore, he said the Metal and Engineering Corporation (METC), which carries out the construction, should take immediate measures.

The Project which is worth 9.6 billion birr was set be finalized by 2013, with a the aim the government said while the inception of the project two years earlier to transform the productivity of country’s agriculture sector. 

The projects have so far completed 46 percent while consuming 60 percent of the budget with METEC estimated that the budget may climbs up to 14 billion birr.

METC’s Yayu Fertilizer Complex General Manager, Major Shaleka Bayabil Yihune, said the delay of the compensation and lobbying the communities are main reasons facing the construction.

According to him, the importation of the inputs and materials for construction has pushed the cost spent so far.

He said that METC is set to finalize the project by the end of 2010.  The Yayu Fertilizer Complex is located in Elu Ababora zone of Oromia zone, which will  use coal  for production.(ENA)
