The Office of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Public Coordination and Participation announced that it has so far raised over 790 mln birr in South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region from the Renaissance Cup.
The Cup has been in the region since December last year.
Office Communication Head Hailu Abreham told WMC that the active participation the people has been showing from the very day the cup stepped in the region is commendable and contributed to the successful fundraising.
According to him, the cup is expected to raise close to1bln birr before it leaves the region with eight zones, four special Woreda administrations and Hawassa city gearing up to welcome the cup.
The Cup has also been in Amhara, Tigray, Benshangul Gumuz, Afar and Oromia regions and collected 2bln birr.
So far, the office has collected 9.7 bln birr from different sources funding.
