The 223km Dire Dewa-Dewelle asphalt concrete road project, which part of the road sector’s Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTPII) is set to be finalized within the coming three months, the Ethiopian Roads Authority has said.
The 4.4 bln birr project, which was awarded for Chinese company has so far saw79 percent completion.
ERA public relation head Samson Wondimu told WMC that that the new road will cut the time taken to travel from Dire Dewa –Dewelle with previous conditions by nearly 3-4 hours.
He said that the road will ensure the local communities beneficiary from modern road infrastructures.
The road will also, according to him, facilitate transportation to and fro the would be planted Dire Dewa industrial park up on which the government counts on in playing role in industrializing the country economy.
He said the road will also help bring in raw materials into the industry and transport to foreign market as port Djibouti found in nearest location.
