PM inaugurates Mekelle Industrial Park

 Ethiopia that has been widely engaging in the development of industrial parks inaugurated the third industrial park.

 Ethiopia has ambitions to be a manufacturing hub in Africa and earning 1 billion USD annually and providing ample employment opportunity for citizens.

 Speaking at the inauguration of Mekelle industrial park built with an outlay of 100 million USD, Hailemariam said industrial parks will pave the way for the renaissance of the country.

 The construction of industrial parks are becoming the engines of the country`s economic transformation, he said.

 The East African nation has been engaged in the development of industrial parks to attract more anchor global companies in textile and apparel industries.

 By developing special economic zones in different parts of the country, the government is working to sustain the double digit economic growth and realize economic and structural transformation. The Mekkelle industrial park is part of this plan.

 The Mekelle industrial park is the third of its kind to be inaugurated after Hawassa and Kombolcha industrial parks – centered on textiles and apparel.

 The industrial parks being developed by the country will enable Ethiopia join top textile and apparel producing countries globally, Hailemariam assured.

 The park, which rests on 100 hectare land, is expected to create jobs for 20,000 individuals.

Dr. Arkebe Oqubay, Board Chairperson of Industrial Parks Development Corporation, on his part emphasized the role that the Mekelle Industrial Park would play in promoting technology transformation and economic integration.

 The government has commissioned construction of 15 industrial parks across the country, which currently is at different levels of performance of which industrial parks in Adama and Diredawa are expected to be inaugurated at the beginning of the coming Ethiopian year. (ENA)
