ASCI distributes improved seeds, fertilizers for more than 2 mln farmers

The Amhara Saving and Credit Institution (ASCI) has disclosed that it has distributed fertilizers and improved seed varieties for more than 2 million farmers in different parts of the region, according to a report by the Amhara Government Communication Affairs Office.

 Resource Section Deputy Executive Officer, Gashaw Workneh, said the institution has opened more than 1254 satellite branch offices in order to effectively distribute the inputs to the farmers.

This year’s input distribution has shown 10 percent increase in terms of amount and the number of farmers who received the fertilizers and improved seeds have increased by 29 thousand as compared to the same period last year.

 increased use of fertilizers, decrease in the price of fertilizers and putting in place of better service delivery schemes has contributed to an increase in purchasing of fertilizers and improved seeds.

The distributed fertilizers and improved seeds are worth more than 3 million birr and the average debt payment capacity of farmers has now reached 99.63 percent.  The institution has created job opportunities for more than 6n thousand youth in the region.
