PM, END Fund CEO Discuss about Ways of Combating Most Common Neglected Tropical Diseases

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn held discussion with Ellen Agler, CEO of END Fund, the world's first private philanthropic initiative to combat the five most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), in Davos, Switzerland. 

The high level delegation led by the premier is in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum.

Trachoma and other tropical diseases exist in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has been carrying out prevention and treatment to the five most common neglected tropical diseases by giving due attention to NTDs during the past years.

Governemnt sources indicate that more than 45 million victims of the diseases have received medical treatment.

END Fund CEO Agler told journalists after the discussion that the organization has been providing support to prevent and eradicate the diseases.

She added that the discussion focused on giving priorities in fighting the NTDs. 

The CEO appreciated the effort Ethiopia has been exerting to prevent and eradicate the tropical diseases.

She stated that the organization is currently working in collaboration with Ministry of Health.

Prime Minister Hailemariam on his part noted that Ethiopia's effort in the fight against the diseases during the past 27 years has borne fruit.

The two officials emphasized on ways of working further with the organization during their discussion, it was learned.

The END Fund has asked to support Ethiopia in fighting the disease as the prevention and eradication requires the mobilization of huge technical and other resources. source-ENA
