Benishanguel irrigates over 26,000 hectares of land

The Benishanguel Gumuz Agriculture and Natural Resources Bureau said that it has cultivated over 26,000 hectares of land this fiscal year alone.     

Head with the Bureau, Babeker Kelifa, said that the bureau had targeted to cultivate 72,000 hectares of land and 26,000 of it became achievable so far.

Babaker added that farmers of the region became beneficiaries by using small dams and diverting rivers to cultivate market oriented crops.  

It was noted that the bureau has provided trainings for over 90,000 farmers ahead of the farming season and as a result awareness of farmers in developing irrigation is highly enhanced.  

A farmer and one of the beneficiaries dwelling around Asosa woreda (district ), Tsentsehalo Kebele, Rahmetelah Tacheser, said that he has secured food after he started to use irrigation works.
