The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation announced that the Metal Engineering Corporation’s failure of completing sugar factories on the scheduled time make the Sugar Corporation loss a sum of 9.4 bln birr.
Corporation’s Spokesperson, Gashaw Ayichiliuhim said that the government is only managed to finalize five out of the 10 sugar factories that are planned to be finalized in the first Growth and Transformation Plan (GTPI).
The five projects completed are according to him,Tendaho,Kesem,Arjodedesa, Omokuraz1 and Omokuraz2.
He said that during this budget year, the Tanabeles Kutir 1 and Omokuraz kutir 1 will see their completion.
The government is undertaking expansion of the old factories-the Wonchi and Fincha Sugar factories along with expanding the plantation of sugarcane to 103 hectares from 30 thousand hectares in 2011.
