Ethiopians in Kenya purchase over 4 mln birr worth saving bond

 

Addis Ababa, December 15 (WIC) – Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origins in Kenya have purchased bond worth over 4.3 million birr for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The Ethiopians and Ethiopian origins made the purchase on 10 December 2011 at an event organized in the premises of Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi.

Citizens of neighboring countries are also among those purchased the saving bond, a press release sent to ERTA by the Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi indicated.

On the occasion, Ethiopia’s Permanent envoy and Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Kenya, Shemsudin Ahmed said the Renaissance Dam which is under construction is an asset and a pride for the next generation.

He said Ethiopia had been under foreign influence not to use Nile Nile, however, this generation has obtained historical opportunity to realize the Renaissance Dam.

The ambassador appreciated the participation of Nile Basin Countries in the process of the construction. It shows the sense of ownership created in the region, he said.

Chief of UN Office in Nairobi, Sahilework Zewude and former Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya, Berhanu Dinka were in attendance of the event.

Nairobi Deberemedhanit Medhaniyalem Church Administrator, Aba Melakeselam Aba Koms Aba Habtemariam Woldegiorgis on his part promised that the church would do its best for the realization of the Renaissance Dam by organizing its members.

Secretary of World Churches Conference Dr. Andre Karamaga expressed his joy to be able to purchase the bond and said Ethiopia has always been a pride for Africa.

On the occasion, Ethiopian artists presented poems and various nations and nationalities’ songs. (ERTA)
