Pres. Girma lauds work of members of Rotary International

Addis Ababa, October 23 (WIC) -President Girma Woldegiorgis lauded the work of the members of the USA and Canada Rotary International for their contribution to the efforts of the Ethiopian Government, being exerted to eliminate polio.

While conferring with the members here on Sunday, the President urged them to continue their support towards eradication of polio from Ethiopia.

The Health Minister, Dr Tedros Adhanom on his part said a no polio case was reported since the last four years because of the activities being undertaken by the government and the support from development partners.

He said a better and strong mechanism need to be implemented in a bid to totally eliminate polio from the country.

US Ambassador to Ethiopia Donald Booth said Ethiopia’s success in controlling and minimizing the transmission of polio and other disease including HIV/AIDS and malaria is exemplary to other developing countries.

The 37 members of the Rotary International arrived in Addis Ababa to participate in the vaccination campaign against polio, which benefited more than 2.8 million children in Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambela, Oromia, Somalia and South Ethiopia Peoples’ States. (ENA)
