Addis Ababa, 29 June 2014 (WIC) – The Addis Ababa City Administration on Sunday inaugurated 22,497 condominium houses which it constructed at a cost of over 4 billion Birr.
11,000 of the houses have already been transferred to beneficiaries by draw while the remaining are yet to be passed on.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen said the government will strengthen its ongoing efforts to address the existing housing problem in urban centers.
Besides improving the standard of the city, the current housing program is consolidating saving culture thereby contributing to poverty reduction.
Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Driba Kuma for his part said additional 73,000 condominium houses are in the pipeline and will be readied for service in three months’ time.
Some of the beneficiaries on the occasion expressed happiness over the good fortune and called on the government to strengthen its efforts.
According to ERTA, 785 contractors and 939 Micro and Small Enterprises have taken part in the construction of the houses.
