Dr. Tedros commends media role in image building, promoting win-win approach

Addis Ababa, 5 September 2014 (WIC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered a day-long training for journalists and media leadership on equitable utilization of Nile water here yesterday.

Foreign Minster Dr. Tedros Adhanom said on the occasion that media has a power in creating common understanding on national interest and developmental matters.

We should work hard harmoniously to achieve developmental goals. Media is vital to every institution but it is even beyond that for the Ministry. The image of the nation has tremendously been built at the global arena politically, economically and in other aspects as well. This achievement is attributed to the country’s feasible foreign policy,” he said.

“We have had the fourth round tripartite talks involving Sudan, Egypt, and Ethiopia in Khartoum concerning Nile. The discussion was fruitful in that common understanding was created. Nile should not be bone of contention rather be the reason for cooperation,” Dr. Tedros added.

is evidenced that some media outlets have given adequate coverage on the equitable utilization of Nile water stressing the need for appreciating the win-win approach. The media has also been making all-round effort to enable the citizens at home and the Diaspora get right information about the ongoing developmental activities in the country, the Minister added.
