OPDO holding 6th conference in Adama

Addis Ababa, 8 October 2014 (WIC) – Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said the role of the Oromo People’s Democratic Organization (OPDO) has been instrumental for the new chapter Ethiopia has currently been writing.

The 6th conference of the organization is underway in Adama city.

Speaking on the occasion, the Premier underscored the contribution of OPDO to the state and to the current development in Ethiopia.

He said the popular and revolutionary moves by the organization have been instrumental to ensure equality among nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia to strive together for their common benefit.

Hailemariam said the state of Oromia has shown tremendous achievements in agriculture, which would be scaled up among farmers in the state.

He reiterates tackling the challenges of rent-seeking trends and religious radicalism that may hamper the growth of the state need to be addressed to benefit the whole society from the development being registered in the region.

Chairperson of OPDO and Chief of Oromia state, Muktar Kedir, accentuates the conference would have paramount importance to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the leadership of OPDO and to devise strategies for the way forward.

Muktar indicated though the current growth which Ethiopia enjoys is exemplary, a lot remains to be done to ensure equity among its people.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party has performed well in the past two years in maintaining peace, undertaking development and governance activities.

Evaluating its overall performance over the past two years and putting the way forward for this year were the major agendas of the 8th regular conference of the Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party which is underway in Fik town of the state.

According to a report presented at the conference, the party performed well in education, healthcare, agriculture and community program as well as in providing access to potable water, roads and infrastructure.

The participation of the state’s public in development activities has also increased over the past four years, the party noted. That is because of the strong public relations works inside and outside the state, the report said.

Significant numbers of Ethiopian Somali Diaspora have been engaged in investment activities in the state and across Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Somali Diaspora have started more than 95 investment projects allocating over six billion Birr, it was disclosed.

The Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party has vowed to further its achievements in peace, development, democratization and governance in the years to come.rty has performed well in maintaining peace, undertaking development and governance endeavors.
