Ethiopian 5th General Election successfully and peacefully accomplished: NEBE

Addis Ababa, 24 May 2015 (WIC)  – The casting of votes to the Ethiopian 5th General Election has accomplished peacefully and successfully, National Electoral Board of Ethiopia announced.

According to Chairperson of the Board Professor Merga Bekana, there was a high turn out and the electorates have cast their votes freely, which has a significant impact in strengthening the country’s democracy.

Representatives and leaders of competing political parties, public and  Civic Society  observers told WIC reporters that the entire voting was free, faire and peaceful.

Electorates have also told WIC that they have elected the party the want without any intimidation. They witnessed that the election was peaceful and free.

The representatives of all contesting political parties have begun counting the votes and the results will be explained in every polling station, Professor Merga said.

The only authorized body to display the election results is the Electoral Board, he said adding that it is illegal to pronounce the results in any  means.
