EPRDF only won 501 parliamentarian seats: NEBE

Addis Ababa, 5 June 2015 (WIC) – The preliminary report has shown that Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has only won 501 parliamentarian seats in the 5th round National Election, National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said.

Chair person of the Board, Merga Bekana (Prof.) in his briefings to journalists said that there is rumor that indicated as if EPRDF won all the 547 parliamentarian seats.

According to Merga, it is erroneous that EPRDF only won 501 seats in Oromiya, Tigray, Amhara and South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Reginald States only.

He added that 408 candidates of the party have won in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City Administrations.

Winners of the elections Benishanguel Gumuez, Gambella, Ethiopian Somali and Afar Regional States don’t represent EPRDF, he added.

According to the board, the rumors about EPRDF’s landslide winning are wrong and the winners in various regional states will be disclosed according to the scheduled.

The rejection of election results by some political parties implies disregarding the political power of the people and the credibility of the international and local observers, he said.
