House re-endorses Hailemariam Desalegn’s nomination as Prime Minister

Addis Ababa, 05 October, 2015(WIC) – The 5th House of People’s Representatives (HPR) has re-endorsed Hailemariam Desalegn’s, Chairperson of EPRDF, the party who won majority seat of the parliament during the 2007 election, nomination as Prime Minister. The HPR has also elected a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker in its first session following the end of tenure of the 4th HPR.

The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front(EPRDF), who won 501 of the 547 seats of the HPR has nominated Hailemariam Desalegn, who was in power since the death of late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi , and he is endorsed by the members of the new House.

The party nominated Hailemariam taking his zeal and effectiveness during his service in different positions at regional and federal level, the party stated during nomination.
The 5th HPR has also re-elected Abadula Gemeda and Shitaye Minalu ad Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

The Prime Minister, House Speaker and the Deputy House Speaker were sworn in in front of the new house to perform their duties in accordance with the constitution and in accountable and responsible manner.
The first session of the new HPR, held after the landslide victory of EPRDF during the last election, is a joint session of the two houses of the bicameral parliamentary system which runs the country’s government system.
