Addis Ababa, April 17, 2015 (WIC) – Participants on the five days long training workshop on “Reporting Election” offered by Deutsche Welle Akademia confirmed that it was helpful and constructive.
The various journalists picked from across the Ethiopian media houses said that the short training on “Reporting Election” was objective and practical which could assist them during the upcoming national election of the country.
Journalist Fanuel Lakew from Ethiopian News Agency said he found it interesting and supportive which can add value to his journalistic career. He added that he learnt a lot on how to report during election process.
Ruth Agonafr from daily-monitor newspaper, who also participated in the training, said she found it constructive on how to report election process and procedures that it gave her directions one journalist must know during election time while reporting.
Charles Achaye-Odong, the coordinator of East Africa Media Development of DW Akademia said the aim of the workshop was to help Ethiopian journalists on how to report election related reports as the national election is approaching.
He recommended the trainees that they should apply into Ethiopian context what they learnt while reporting election related news.
He stressed journalists must follow the rules and regulations of the Election procedures and must provide balanced and accurate reporting to the society. He also promised that DW Akademia would consider offering such trainings to Ethiopian journalists in the future.
Martin Vogl a trainer from DW also said such trainings can help journalists to discharge their career in confidence and qualified way.
Samuel Tesfaye, Chairman of the Ethiopian press Club also shared the idea journalists need to know the various steps during election time.
He thanked the Ethiopian government communication office and German Embassy and German foreign affairs and the DW Akademia as well for their faciliting activities for the successful conclusion of the training.
The five days long workshop on “Reporting Election” offered at Jupiter Hotel to 20 journalists drawn from across the nation concluded today.
